Ann Curry Reflects on 'Today Show' Firing 8 Years Later: 'It Still Hurts'

Ann Curry is looking back on being fired from The Today Show.

The 63-year-old journalist opened up in an interview with Elle.

“I still don’t really understand. I know I did nothing wrong. I know I was good at my job,” she said of her abrupt firing back in 2012.

“The bottom line is that it still hurts. It honestly hurts really deeply, because I really think I did nothing wrong,” she continued.

“But in spite of the pain of it, which still lingers, I know that I contributed to some people suffering less,” she said.

“But I tell you, it was tough. It was hard to walk that line, to not add more [suffering]. Boy, oh boy, was it tough.”

Her exit was rumored to have been caused in part to a lack of “chemistry” with co-host Matt Lauer. At the time, there were also reports claiming he had played a part in forcing her out of the role.

Late last year, Ann showed support for someone who come forward with allegations against her former co-anchor, Matt Lauer.
