Gabrielle Union Speaks Out About Not Receiving Support From Her Black Colleagues After Claiming Work Toxicity at NBC

Gabrielle Union is opening up about the lack of support from her Black colleagues after the misconduct claims she claimed against America’s Got Talent last year.

The 47-year-old actress and producer spoke to Marie Claire for their October 2020 issue, and got candid about the harsher side of the entertainment industry.

“These racist institutions and systems have done an amazing job at keeping us very fearful of speaking up, asking for equality, and asking for accountability, because they have shown us time and time again that we are disposable,” Gabrielle said.

She added, “They will discredit and malign you, and you will never work again.… Being blackballed in this industry is very real.”

Gabrielle went on, speaking of those who accused her of overplaying the allegations.

“That very sentiment is how all of this has been allowed to go on for centuries; that kind of gaslighting, I categorically reject,” she adds. “You are not going to gaslight me into minimizing my trauma, which is exactly what allows this to continue on for the next person.”

She continued, “I cannot center fear in my life. I can’t center functioning from a fear of scarcity. They say silence is violence, and I refuse to be complicit in my silence. I have to be fully present in my body and fully free.”

Late last month, Gabrielle and NBC reached a settlement in response to her toxic workplace allegations. See what they were here…
