Get to Know 'Swamp Thing' Actress Maria Sten with These 10 Fun Facts! (Exclusive)

The DC Universe series Swamp Thing is having its broadcast debut tonight and we caught up with actress Maria Sten ahead of the premiere!

DC fans likely have seen the show already on the DC Universe streaming service, but now a larger audience will get the chance to catch the show’s first season!

Maria plays Liz Tremayne on the show and you might also recognize her from her work on the Syfy series Channel Zero.

  1. I’m Danish, Swedish and Congolese, and was born and raised in Denmark.
  2. I moved to New York City alone when I was 18.
  3. I’ve been riding horses since I was 3 years old and my first childhood dream was to be a rancher. (hint: It sort of still is.)
  4. I’m an avid treehugger. Like, I’m not just an advocate for environmental awareness and protection, I do actually hug the trees when I hike. Try it, it’s great!
  5. Aside from acting, I also double as a screenwriter and am currently working with David E. Kelley on ABC’s new show Big Sky. Fun fact: It also airs on Tuesdays this fall!

  1. I’m a die hard Lord of the Rings nerd; when I was a teenager, I slept in a tent outside the movie theater for 3 days (in November) to get premiere tickets for The Two Towers (where I dressed up like an elf).
  2. I’ve visited over 100 cities in 27 countries.
  3. I was an athlete as a kid and did gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, track and field and horseback riding. As a result, I basically ate everything in sight because I needed the energy.
  4. I was Miss Denmark 2008 and competed in the Miss Universe pageant.
  5. Because I wasn’t raised in America, I didn’t know what a Twinkie was until I was 22.

Swamp Thing airs on The CW on Tuesday nights at 8/7c!
