Fiona Apple Explains Why She Was 'Terrified' to Be Nominated at the Grammys This Year

Fiona Apple is opening up about being snubbed for Album of the Year at the 2021 Grammys and why she was actually “terrified” of being nominated in the category.

The beloved singer-songwriter’s new album Fetch the Bolt Cutters earned a nomination for Best Alternative Music Album, but it failed to break into the top category.

Fiona revealed in a new interview with The Guardian that she was scared of being nominated against Taylor Swift and getting bullied by her fans.

“I am so on board for Taylor Swift re-recording her songs and I want them to outperform those old recordings. It’s nice to know that the Swifties [her fans] will make that happen,” Fiona said. “As much as the Swifties terrify me, I respect their power for doing good for her! I was so terrified that I was going to be nominated for [Grammys] album of the year along with Taylor Swift, I’m so relieved [I’m not] because I didn’t wanna get bullied!”

In the same interview, Fiona called out the Grammys for giving a nomination to a controversial figure in the music world, who was given the nomination under a pseudonym.
