Monty Python's Broadway Musical 'Spamalot' to Become a Movie, Will Likely Film This Year!

The hit Broadway musical Monty Python’s Spamalot is getting the movie treatment and it will likely be made in the near future!

Paramount Pictures has acquired the rights to the musical and Monty Python troupe member Eric Idle has written the script to the film. Casey Nicholaw, who choreographed the Tony-winning musical when it was on Broadway, is attached to direct.

Spamalot is an adaptation of the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Idle will produce the film alongside Oscar-winning producer Dan Jinks, who is also working on a new film adaptation of the beloved musical Fiddler on the Roof right now.

Tim Curry, David Hyde Pierce, and Hank Azaria led the cast of the Broadway version of Spamalot back in 2005. The show also launched Sara Ramirez‘s career after winning a Tony Award for the production.

Deadline reports that the “plan is to move right to casting and get underway this year.”
