Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris 'Blindsided' By Vogue's Cover Choice, Which Was Changed Without Her Knowledge (Report)

Vogue magazine has been under fire for days over the photo they chose of Vice President Elect Kamala Harris for their February 2021 cover story.

The famed publication chose a picture of the politician in casual attire, wearing Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers, and against a backdrop that is unusual for the publication. Social media was outraged.

Now, a source involved in the negotiations on the cover said that the Vice President Elect and her team were unaware that Vogue had chosen that photo and it was initially supposed to run inside the magazine, not as the cover image. Her team had been unaware a cover change had been made until the photos leaked over the weekend. There is a second cover featuring the VP-Elect in a powder blue power suit.

Vogue itself released a statement saying they chose that image due to an “authentic, approachable nature, which we feel is one of the hallmarks of the Biden-Harris administration.”

The magazine added that they chose both images as a way to “respond to the seriousness of this moment in history, and the role she has to play leading our country forward.”

Meanwhile, a member of her team reportedly told the Los Angeles Times that they “expressed to Vogue its disappointment over the magazine’s decision.” The Times also noted that the VP Elect was “blindsided.”
