Lucie Arnaz Defends Nicole Kidman Starring as Her Mom Lucille Ball in 'Being The Ricardos'

Lucie Arnaz is opening up about the controversy of Nicole Kidman playing her mother, Lucille Ball, in a biopic.

The now 69-year-old daughter of Lucille and Desi Arnaz, addressed the issues about Nicole‘s casting after seeing fans’ outcry over the situation.

If you didn’t see, Nicole will be starring as Lucille in Aaron Sorkin‘s Being the Ricardos, which is set for Amazon.

The movie will reportedly focus on when Lucy and Desi face a crisis that could end their careers and another that could end their marriage. See who will play Desi here!

“It’s a done deal,” Lucie shared on a Facebook through a video message. “The contracts aren’t actually signed, which is why I haven’t said anything publicly about it, but I felt I should just at least try to calm the waters here.”

She added, “There seems to be a lot of discussion about Nicole Kidman. It should be Debra Messing. It should be Carole Cook, I don’t know…Here’s the deal. You should understand. We are not doing a remake of I Love Lucy. No one has to impersonate Lucy Ricardo nor do the Vitameatavegamin routine, or the chocolate factory routine or any of the silly things. It’s the story of Lucille Ball, my actual mother, not Lucy Ricardo, and her husband, Desi Arnaz, my dad, not Ricky Ricardo.”

“There will be humor in the film, but it is a story of the two of them and how they met and what went right with finding the show, what went wrong, their relationship, their love affair,” Lucie shared.

Debra Messing did campaign for the role, shortly after it was announced that Nicole was in talks for the role.
