This Is Why Kamala Harris Is The 49th Vice President Instead Of The 46th

Kamala Harris is going to make history tomorrow by becoming the first woman Vice President of the United States.

Not only that, the politician will also become the first person of African American and Asian American descent in the role.

Kamala will take over the role from Mike Pence, as the 49th Vice President – but why 49th, instead of 46th, Joe Biden‘s Presidential number?

It’s all because of the 32nd President of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt.

FDR is known for having the longest presidency with four terms under his belt. This also allowed him to have three Vice Presidents.

The first was John Garner, who decided to announce his candidacy for President in 1940, after his relationship with FDR turned sour.

FDR‘s second VP was Henry A. Wallace, who was removed from the re-election ticket after the abolition of the Board of Economic Warfare.

His third Vice President was Harry S. Truman, who would stick with FDR until his death in 1945. Truman would go on to become the 33rd President of the United States.

If you missed it, here is the rundown of events for Inauguration Day for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, which starts at 12 p.m. ET.
