L.A. County Sheriff Reveals If Tiger Woods Will Face Charges After Car Crash

Police officials have confirmed that Tiger Woods will not be charged after his car crash on Tuesday (February 23).

During a virtual press conference on Wednesday (February 24), L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said that the 45-year-old pro golfer will not face any criminal charges, calling the incident “purely an accident.”

“We don’t contemplate any charges whatsoever,” Sheriff Villanueva said, via People. “This remains an accident. An accident is not a crime. They do happen, unfortunately.”

Sheriff Villanueva also reiterated that Tiger did not show any evidence of being impaired, which police officials confirmed the day before after his accident.

On Tuesday morning, Tiger was involved in a single-vehicle accident near the communities of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes in Los Angeles. According to officials, Tiger was traveling downhill in his car when it struck a sign in the center divider, cut through a tree and landed in the brush alongside the road with “major damage.”

Also in Sheriff Villanueva‘s press conference, he said that investigators will not pursue any misdemeanor charges against Tiger, such as reckless driving.

“This is what it is, an accident,” Sheriff Villanueva said. “A reckless driving charge has a lot of elements to it. This is purely an accident.”

After being rescued by first responders, Tiger was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery on his leg and ankle.

Shortly after the surgery was complete, a spokesperson for Tiger shared an official statement on behalf of the golfer letting fans know that he made it out of surgery just fine and said that he is “currently awake, responsive and recovering in his hospital room.”
