Liam Neeson Will Personally Greet NYC Moviegoers Who See His New Movie in Theaters

Liam Neeson is excited for New York City movie theaters to re-open and he will personally be at a theater on Friday night (March 4) to welcome moviegoers seeing his new film.

The 68-year-old actor’s movie The Marksman will be playing at the AMC Lincoln Square theater and he will be at an evening showing on Friday to greet moviegoers before the film begins.

“This is one for the diary,” Liam told THR. “It will be nice to welcome people. I think going to the cinema is a bit of a sacred experience. I’ve felt that way since I was a kid.”

The Marksman has been playing in theaters since January 15 and it has grossed over $16 million worldwide so far, though it still hasn’t played in many key markets like New York City. The movie follows a rancher on the Arizona border who becomes the unlikely defender of a young Mexican boy desperately fleeing the cartel assassins who’ve pursued him into the U.S.

“The reopening of New York is a strong symbolic gesture to the theater-going audience that it is okay to put your toe in the water,” said Tom Ortenberg, chief of Open Road/Briarcliff, the film’s U.S. distributor.
