European Venues Added to Oscars 2021, Show Will Be Entirely In-Person

The 2021 Oscars will feature some new locations.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dr. Erin Bromage of UMass Dartmouth, who is operating as the Oscars COVID-19 coordinator, discussed changes being made to the ceremony alongside the event’s producers on Tuesday (March 30) morning.

The decision comes after a number of nominees expressed concern about their ability to participate in the ceremony after it was announced that there would be no Zoom appearances allowed.

In order to address this issue, the Academy is reportedly setting up “hubs” in London and Paris to help nominees participate in-person.

However, the outlet says producers are still encouraging those who can safely and legally travel to the ceremony in Los Angeles.

Those who are able to do so will be required to quarantine in compliance with Los Angeles County guidelines for a period of time that can be shortened if guests travel via business or first class, are vaccinated, or are in a production bubble.

There will also be “a state-of-the-art testing facility just for the Academy Awards” and additional travel costs will be covered by the show.
