Kevin Durant Fined $50,000 for Offensive Language Used in Heated Exchange With Michael Rapaport

Kevin Durant is being hit with a fine.

The 32-year-old Brooklyn Nets player was fined for $50,000 by the National Basketball Association on Friday (April 2) for using “offensive and derogatory language” in messages exchanged with actor Michael Rapaport that went viral.

Kevin Durant did later apologize and “acknowledged that his actions were inappropriate,” the NBA said in their statement.

“I’m sorry that people seen that language I used. That’s not really what I want people to see and hear from me, but hopefully I can move past it and get back out there on the floor,” he told reporters.

The altercation took place back in December of 2020, when Kevin Durant seemingly took issue with Michael Rapaport‘s commentary following a post-game interview. Michael then leaked parts of their exchange to social media, which went viral.

“This situation got way out of hand, here’s my final statement on it….” Michael captioned a video responding to the news. Here’s what he initially said about Kevin Durant.
