Morrissey's Manager Rips 'The Simpsons' For Spoof Of The British Singer

Morrissey was apparently quite upset over the parody of him on The Simpsons over the weekend.

The 61-year-old British singer’s manager put the long-running show on blast over their spoof on the show.

In the episode, Lisa Simpson created an imaginary friend named Quilloughby, who leads the band The Snuffs. Voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, Quilloughby is a “depressed British singer from the 1980s”, who some thought resembled Morrissey.

“Poking fun at subjects is one thing. Other shows like SNL still do a great job at finding ways to inspire great satire,” Peter Katsis wrote in his review. “But when a show stoops so low to use harshly hateful tactics like showing the Morrissey character with his belly hanging out of his shirt (when he has never looked like that at any point in his career) makes you wonder who the real hurtful, racist group is here.”

It continued, “Even worse — calling the Morrissey character out for being a racist, without pointing out any specific instances, offers nothing. It only serves to insult the artist.”

“Morrissey has never made a ‘cash grab’ hasn’t sued any people for their attacks, has never stopped performing great shows, and is still a serious vegan and supporter for animal rights,” it went on. “By suggesting all of the above in this episode…the Simpson’s [sic] hypocritical approach to their storyline says it all.”

The Simpsons has been making a lot of changes to the show behind the scenes.
