Man Who Bragged on Bumble About Storming U.S. Capitol Gets Turned In By His Match & Arrested By FBI

A man who told someone he matched with on Bumble that he stormed the U.S. Capitol in January was just arrested by the FBI on Thursday (April 22), CBS News reported on Friday (April 23).

Robert Chapman of Carmel, New York matched with someone on the dating app and said “I did storm the Capitol.”

The individual who he matched with then contacted the FBI on January 13, roughly a week after the violent takeover of the Capitol building by Trump supporters, according to the court documents.

More details inside…

Screenshots of the conversation were given to the police, and showed that Robert Chapman told his match he “made it all the way to Statuary Hall” during the storming of the building.

“We are not a match,” the person told Robert, to which he said “I suppose not.”

After the FBI reviewed body-camera footage from the Metropolitan Police Department recorded during the riots, an individual was identified who appeared to be Robert Chapman, and was seen filming the takeover inside the building on his phone.

“In the body-camera footage, an individual who appears to be ‘Robert Chapman‘ is located inside of the Capitol Buildings in Statuary Hall,” the court documents read.

A Facebook post also appeared to show him in Statuary Hall, inside of the U.S. Capitol Building. More Facebook posts, under the name Robert Erik, found him bragging, writing: “I’M F****** INSIDE THE CRAPITOL!!!”

Due to the evidence, the legal docs argue that he likely entered the Capitol Building on January 6 “with the intent to impede, disrupt, or disturb the orderly conduct of a session of Congress or either House of Congress.”

Robert Chapman is charged with knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

President Biden recently spoke out regarding a recent major development amid protests in the United States.
