Meghan Markle Scores Another Victory in Court Against UK News Outlet

Meghan Markle is celebrating another victory.

The 39-year-old Duchess of Sussex won the remainder of her copyright suit against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL), the publisher of Mail on Sunday and MailOnline, regarding the publication of a letter sent to her estranged father Thomas Markle on Wednesday (May 5), the BBC reported.

The remainder of her victory comes after she won the bulk of the legal battle back in February.

The newspaper continued to argue that Meghan Markle was not the sole owner of the letter in question, claiming it was co-authored by Jason Knauf, her former communications secretary. Therefore, the copyright would belong to the Crown.

Meghan won after Jason “emphatically” denied co-writing the letter, and lawyers representing Queen Elizabeth informed Meghan‘s legal representation that they “did not consider the Crown to be the copyright owner.”

Mr. Knauf did not draft, and has never claimed to have drafted, any parts of the electronic draft or the letter and would never have asserted copyright over any of their content. In our client’s view, it was the duchess’s letter alone,” Jason‘s lawyers said in court.

Lord Justice Warby granted summary judgement, meaning the final judgement was made in Meghan’s favor. The case will now avoid a further trial.
