Dua Lipa Makes Political Statement at BRITs 2021, Sends Message Directly to Boris Johnson

Dua Lipa got political during her acceptance speech at the 2021 Brit Awards!

The 25-year-old singer sent a message directly to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson while accepting the award for British Female Solo Artist at the event on Tuesday (May 11) at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Dua kicked off the night on the red carpet in a Vivienne Westwood dress and she was one of the first performers of the night, doing a medley of “Love Again,” “Physical,” “Pretty Please,” “Hallucinate,” and “Don’t Start Now.”

During her acceptance speech, Dua dedicated her win to a nurse in the UK and then called for better treatment of frontline workers.

“I think this is such an incredible initiative to give another part of your award to someone and I’ve chosen that my Best British Female of the year is Dame Elizabeth Anionwu,” Dua said. “She has spent her stellar nursing career fighting racial injustice. She has also spent so much time and is a strong, strong advocate for protecting frontline workers.”

[Anionwu] has also said that there’s a massive disparity between gratitude and respect for frontline workers because it’s very good to clap for them but we need to pay them,” she continued. “And so I think what we should do is we should all give a massive massive round of applause and give Boris a message that we all support a fair pay rise for our frontline.”

FYI: Dua is wearing Vivienne Westwood for both her red carpet look and her performance.
