Andrew Garfield Looks Back On His Iconic Line in 'The Social Network'

Andrew Garfield is looking back at his big role in The Social Network, where he played Eduardo Saverin, opposite Jesse Eisenberg‘s Mark Zuckerberg.

The film centered on the formation of Facebook and the path Zuckerberg went down, ultimately facing two lawsuits over it.

The scene in question focuses on Andrew‘s Eduardo as he just found out that his stake in the company went from over 30% down to .0003%

The scene is towards the end of movie and in it, Eduardo angrily confronts Mark after learning that his was the only stake whose percentage decreased, and his name was removed from the masthead.

After yelling at Mark and reminding him that he was a cofounder of Facebook, Eduardo said in a lower voice: “You better lawyer up, a–hole. Because I’m not coming back for 30%. I’m coming back for everything.”

While reading Thirst Tweets in a Buzzfeed Zoom interview, Andrew opened up about the delivery of the line.

“The cool thing about that movie, my love for Jesse Eisenberg and the relationship we created for that film meant that I wanted that line to hurt him more than if I shouted it,” Andrew shared. “I wanted it to be lodged in his f***ng soul.”

He also joked that if he found himself in a situation where work wasn’t coming at him, he’d consider saying that line in people’s ears for money, as one of the tweets suggested.

“If I can’t make money in other ways, I will charge people for me to whisper in their ear, ‘You better lawyer up, a–hole,’” Andrew shared. “It’s kind of a good side gig.”
