Mindy Kaling Shares Rare Comments About Her 'Secret Pregnancy'

Mindy Kaling is opening up about her “secret,” second pregnancy!

If you forgot, the 41-year-old The Mindy Project actress shocked fans back in October 2020 when she announced that she had welcomed her second child, a son named Spencer, a month earlier. She never publicly revealed she was pregnant. She is also mom to 3-year-old daughter Katherine.

During an appearance at the #WOW2021 event on Thursday (May 13), Mindy shared some rare comments about being a mom of two.

It has been wonderful,” Mindy shared via People.

She then went on to joke about hiding her pregnancy during the pandemic.

“I don’t know if I recommend everyone having a secret pregnancy during a worldwide pandemic, but I will say I learned a lot from it,” Mindy said with a laugh. “Definitely like a once in a lifetime type of thing.”

Mindy then shared some insight into her parenting style, saying she’s “inspired by parenting where the parents don’t scream. If you can not scream at your children, I think you’re a good parent. To me, people who do not blow their top and also can stay on a consistent message. That to me — I’m the most impressed by those people.”

Later on, Mindy talked about having tons of help from family and friends when it comes to raising Katherine and Spencer.

“Being a single mom is not for everyone,” Mindy said, adding that she is “only able to do it” until she had resources, like a full-time nanny. Plus her dad is retired so he’s around a lot to help out with the kids.

“So we have this like little strange little house of like intergenerational, interracial people that are coming in and out to take care of everything,” Mindy added.

“I feel my life is so rich,” Mindy continued, adding that she’s been able to relieve some of her childhood memories through her kids’ experiences.

“If anything, [parenthood] has given me this flooding of memories of my childhood, I feel like I’m able to write even more,” Mindy concluded. “That has been one of the most unexpected pleasures of having children, is being able to tap back into my own youth.”
