Jodie Turner-Smith Thinks Meghan Markle Might Have Brought The Royal Family Into The Modern Era: 'Terrible Missed Opportunity'

In her interview while promoting her Channel 5 series, Jodie spoke about the current royal family and how she feels that Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepping away from it was a missed opportunity to bring the Royal Family into the modern era.

“I think that Meghan could have been that,” the 34-year-old actress shared. “It was a terrible missed opportunity, the way in which it was not allowed to be something that really modernizes that institution, and to change it to something for the better.”

She added, “I think that’s why there’s dysfunction there.”

Jodie also said that she doesn’t “consider myself a monarchist”, however, she does think that the “institution is not changing with the time, or quickly enough.”

“We have to look at things in a modern context. And only then we will recognize that certain things are archaic, and don’t really serve us as a community and are limiting us. I think we should keep those things in stories and move on to something else in reality.”

Jodie will star as Anne Boleyn, the second of Henry VIII’s wives, in the upcoming Channel 5 series. You can see a first look at the program here!
