Minari

The much talked about drama, Minari, has arrived on home release this week.

The film follows a Korean-American family in the early 80s that moves to Arkansas in search of the American Dream. As the immigrant family tries to make it in the states, the family home changes with the arrival of their grandmother. As the family tries to navigate the new world and start a successful farm, instability and challenges help test the strength of their bonds and redefines the meaning of family.

Starring Steven Yeun (the Walking Dead) and Academy Award winner Yoon Yuh Jung the film is bolstered with strong acting that really helps convey the immigrant story in America. This is undoubtedly an American film filled with a great balance of drama and comedy.

Presented in 18090p AVC encoding, the film looks great with exceptional detail in the transfer. The sound is solid especially with the Academy Award nominated score by Emile Mosseri.

Extras are a bit lacking however the audio commentary with the writer, director, and Actress Yuh-Jung Youn is delightful and worth picking up the blu-ray for that alone.

Overall, if you’re looking for a film that touches the heart – this is worth picking up. With an ending that makes you pause to think, the film leaves an impression after it’s done.
