Charlize Theron Developing Netflix Movie With Niki Caro About Pay Gap in Professional Surfing

Charlize Theron is teaming up with Mulan director Niki Caro on an exciting new project.

The 45-year-old actress and Niki are developing a new movie together for Netflix, according to Variety.

The film is said to be focusing on women’s fight for equality in big wave surfing and based on Daniel Duane’s New York Times Magazine article, “The Fight For Gender Equality In One of the Most Dangerous Sports on Earth,” and the four women — Bianca Valenti, Andrea Moller, Paige Alms, Keala Kennelly — who are fighting for the right to compete in big-wave contests.

The four athletes have formed a powerful bond throughout the process as they surf dangerous spots including California’s Maverick’s and Maui’s Jaws while asserting their right to join the male-dominated competitions.

Charlize will be a producer on the project, with Niki directing the film, from a screenplay adapted by Becky Johnston, which will focus on the four women’s stories and their powerful bond.

Just recently, Charlize opened up about wanting to star in this movie.
