Instagram Is Now Giving Users the Option of Hiding Like Counts

Instagram is now giving users the option of hiding the like counts on their photos from other users, and/or, hiding the like count on photos on all of the photos that show up in their own personal feed.

This move comes as Instagram has been testing hiding personal like counts for over a year. This move will soon come to Facebook too, in order to “depressurize” the experience on the app.

“This way, if you like, you can focus on the photos and videos being shared, instead of how many likes posts get,” Instagram announced on Wednesday (May 26).

In an Instagram study, the social media platform concluded that some users enjoyed not seeing like counts because it heightened the experience, while others did not like it because “people use like counts to get a sense for what’s trending or popular.” Thus, the app is now giving you the option to choose!

To hide your like counts, go to the Posts section of the Settings menu. You can hide likes before sharing a post, or you can toggle the setting on or off at any time. This goes live today (May 26).
