Barack & Michelle Obama To Produce 'We The People' Animated Series For Netflix

Barack and Michelle Obama are re-teaming with Netflix for a new animated series.

The former President and First Lady of the United States are teaming up with creator Chris Nee for We The People, which is aimed to teach people all about how the government works.

We the People is described as a series of animated music videos that contain lessons in U.S. civics.

The official description says that the series is “an exuberant call to action for everyone to rethink civics as a living, breathing thing and to reframe their understanding of what government and citizenship mean in a modern world.”

Mr. and Mrs. Obama will be executive producers on the series alongside Chris, as well as Higher Ground’s Tonia Davis and Priya Swaminathan and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris.

We the People will combine a mix of animation styles with original songs performed by artists including Lin-Manuel Miranda, H.E.R., Janelle Monáe, Brandi Carlile, Adam Lambert, Cordae, Bebe Rexha, KYLE, Andra Day and poet Amanda Gorman.

The episodes were directed by Peter Ramsey, Trisha Gum, Victoria Vincent, Benjy Brooke, Mabel Ye, Tim Rauch, Jorge R. Gutierrez, Daron Nefcy, Everett Downing, and Kendra Ryan.

We The People will debut on Netflix on July 4.
