HBO Boss Gives Update on 'Mare of Easttown' Season 2 Possibilities

Casey Bloys, the head of HBO, is opening up about the success of Mare of Easttown and he’s also talking up about the possibility of a second season.

The show was originally intended to be a limited series with just one season, but the network is clearly very happy with the series because they just gave creator Brad Ingelsby a three-year exclusive overall deal.

Brad just did a fantastic job on Mare,” Casey said in a new interview with Variety. “It was a great collaboration.”

When asked about a possible second season, Casey didn’t completely answer the question.

“If Brad felt like he had a story to tell that felt like it would be at the same level, I think everybody would be open to it,” he said. “Right now, he doesn’t have that story. Who knows? We’ll have to wait to see if they come up with something they’re dying to tell.”

“I don’t even have any idea that there’s going to be a timeline [for making a Season 2 decision],” he added. “Usually we take the lead from our creators. There’s been no real conversations about what a Season 2 would look like.”

Casey also talked about Kate Winslet possibly returning to the character.

“I think Mare got her claws into Kate – she has been open about that,” he said. “But there’s a long way to go between that and ‘Let’s do it again.’ The story has to be there and the reason to do it has to be there.”
