Shawn Mendes Strips Down for 'Wonderland' Cover, Admits He 'Struggles' to Live Up to His Own Expectations

Shawn Mendes is getting candid about his career.

The 22-year-old “In My Blood” superstar is on the cover of Wonderland magazine‘s Summer 2021 issue and you can check out the photo spread here.

In his interview with the magazine, Shawn spoke with fellow musician Kevin Abstract about finding his musical identity.

“I still struggle with trying to fit into the shoes of who I believe ‘Shawn Mendes’ should be,” the singer-songwriter explained, sharing that even after his meteoric rise on social media and three Grammy nominations he still struggled with insecurities.

“At some point along the line, my expectations and my standard of who I should be, the music I should make, and the way I should look, became so high that no matter what I did and no matter how hard I was trying with my music, I couldn’t fit those shoes,” Shawn continued.

“If I even struggle to [live up to] what I think I should be, I definitely don’t want to make it harder for the 14-year-old kid in Canada to be who they are,” he added.

Shawn was also photographed by the pool for Rollacoaster‘s Fall/Winter issue. All of the photos from both magazines were taken by Max Montgomery.
