'In the Heights' End Credits Include Tribute to Late Actress, Plus Extra Lin-Manuel Miranda Scene

The new movie musical In the Heights is out now and there are two moments that you should make sure to catch in the end credits.

The first one is a touching tribute to an actress in the film who sadly passed away last year. The second one happens all the way at the end of the credits and features an additional scene for Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s character.

Here a synopsis of the movie: “Lights up on Washington Heights…The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies this vibrant and tight-knit community. At the intersection of it all is the likable, magnetic bodega owner Usnavi (Anthony Ramos), who saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines and sings about a better life.”

Doreen Montalvo, a Broadway actress who makes a cameo appearance in the movie, sadly passed away in October 2020 at the age of 56.

After the cast’s title cards are shown at the beginning of the end credits, a mural of Doreen is shown with the words “para siempre,” which means “forever.”

For those who don’t know, Doreen was a member of the original Broadway cast of In the Heights and she appears during the character Nina’s song “Breathe.”

If you wait all the way until the end of the credits, you’ll be treated to an additional scene featuring Lin-Manuel‘s character, the Piragua Guy.

Lin-Manuel wrote the music for the Broadway musical and played Usnavi in the original cast. For the film, he took on the role of the Piragua Guy, but only one of the character’s infectious songs was used in the movie.
