Nicole Kidman Says She's 'Way Out of Her Comfort Zone' Playing Lucille Ball in 'Being the Ricardos'

Nicole Kidman is getting candid about her new movie Being the Ricardos.

The Oscar-winning actress spoke with comedian Chris Rock in the latest episode of Variety‘s Actors on Actors series about her role as the iconic I Love Lucy star and how she prepared for the part.

“I’ve had to put in an enormous amount of time on Lucille Ball right now, because she has a very particular way of speaking,” Nicole explained.

Chris recalled that Lucille could reportedly learn any skill in two days.

“I believe it,” Nicole said, leading Chris to compare the I Love Lucy star to Mt. Everest and calling her one of the “most talented people to ever roam the earth.”

“I am way out of my comfort zone right now, Chris. I’m free falling,” Nicole quipped back.

Javier Bardem is set to play Lucille‘s husband Desi Arnzz in the film, which will follow their love story.

“The strange thing about Lucille Ball is that everyone thinks we’re remaking the I Love Lucy Show, and it’s so not that. It’s about Lucy and Desi and their relationship and their marriage. It’s very deep, actually,” Nicole said of the film.

Nicole faced some backlash when it was announced that she would be starring in the film, prompting Lucille and Desi‘s daughter Lucie to defend the casting decision.
