Tevin had been arrested in August of 2019 in connection with the murders of three people in Cleveland which took place on New Year’s Eve in 2018.

The charges at the time included “six counts of murder, five counts of felonious assault, three counts of voluntary manslaughter and one count of perjury.”

A trial held last month ended with a mistrial, and that prompted the defense team to file a motion for judgement of acquittal.

Earlier this week, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Joan Synenberg granted the motion of dismissal, noting that none of the eyewitnesses to the murders could identify Tevin as the shooter. The decision clears his name.

CNN spoke to Joe Patituce, the defense attorney for Tevin, at the trial.

“This was a horrible tragedy, three families lost three family members and you know, absolutely horrific. So, we understand emotions were running high,” he shared. “But today, Tevin Biles was vindicated – what he’s waited to get for the last two and half years.”

He added that Tevin was cleared because he was “innocent of these charges and today, we were able to see that the state had absolutely no evidence that he was guilty of this offense.”

Here’s how Simone first reacted to the news that her brother was arrested for the murders.
