Salma Hayek Says It Was 'Torturous' Keeping Her Role in 'Eternals' Secret

Salma Hayek is getting candid about her new movie, Eternals!

The 54-year-old actress made an appearance on Monday (June 21) on Late Night with Seth Meyers and discussed her role as Ajak in the upcoming Marvel film.

Salma told Seth that she was “super excited” to join the cast of the film, which is directed by Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao.

“I was super excited, especially because I was already fond of Chloé. Now she’s one of the few Oscar winner female directors,” she said. “But even then I was a superfan, and it was super exciting also to do a Marvel film.”

She also revealed that due to concerns about stories leaking, she wasn’t allowed to read the script before she signed on.

“You have to sign the contract without reading the script. It was really strange,” Salma said. “I did it. I did it. I was nervous. But I trusted her.”

The actress added that it was extremely challenging to keep the exciting news secret once she had been cast.

“You’re like, ‘Yes, oh my God, I got a Marvel!’ Like, what are the odds, right, at my age? But you cannot tell anybody,” she said. “And I was one of the first ones [cast]. You cannot tell your mother. You cannot tell your father. Because let me tell you, they cannot hold a secret. You cannot tell your kids. It was torturous.”

Eternals is set to hit theaters on November 5, 2021.
