Margaret Cho Opens Up About Forgiving Jay Leno For His Past Racist Jokes About Asians

Margaret Cho is opening up about her decision to forgive Jay Leno over his past racist jokes about Asians.

The 52-year-old comedian spoke to Entertainment Weekly and talked about her appearance on his motorhead series for CNBC, Jay Leno’s Garage.

In response to the question on if she booked her appearance before or after his apology, she said that “Asian jokes go over my head because I’ve heard so many of them. I do a noise-cancelling thing with them.”

Margaret added that she “booked Jay quite a while ago. For him to step up and take respon­sibility is very meaningful. I’m so pleased with his response. I accept apologies.”

Jay apologized for his past jokes just a few months ago, during a Zoom call with Guy Aoki, co-founder of the Media Action Network for Asian Americans.

“At the time I did those jokes, I genuinely thought them to be harmless. I was making fun of our enemy North Korea, and like most jokes, there was a ring of truth to them,” he said in his apology.
