Laurence Fishburne Says He Still Doesn't Know Why He's Not in 'Matrix 4'

Laurence Fishburne is getting candid about his absence from The Matrix 4.

The 59-year-old actor spoke with Collider about his latest movie, The Ice Road, and shared that he’s still unsure as to why he wasn’t asked to reprise his role as Morpheus in the upcoming installment in the franchise.

“I am not in the next Matrix movie and you’d have to ask (director) Lana Wachowski why, ’cause I don’t have an answer for that,” he said.

The interviewer then remarked that he hoped the actor was just lying to hide a surprise appearance in the film, but Laurence didn’t confirm or deny the speculation.

It was announced that Keanu Reeves and Carrie Ann Moss would be returning for the fourth film. Laurence first addressed his absence from the movie in August of last year.

However, the actor did discuss his role in the fourth John Wick movie during his interview.

“I read the script. It’s really, really cool,” he said. “As much as it’s the same world as the other three films, it’s just deeper. It’s much deeper in terms of the code of the assassin and the relationship that he has with one character in particular who I think Mr Watanabe is playing… is really the heart and soul of it.”
