The Weeknd Will Head To HBO To Star in New Cult TV Series

The Weeknd is headed to HBO!

The 31-year-old musician is set to star in an all-new cult television series from Euphoria creator, Sam Levinson.

According to Variety, The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, will not only star, but co-write the show for the network, and executive produce with Sam and Reza Fahim. All three will be credited as creators of the show.

At the moment, the series is called The Idol, and will center on a female pop singer who starts a romance with an enigmatic L.A. club owner who is the leader of a secret cult.

This isn’t the first brush with scripted TV for The Weeknd.

He wrote and starred in an episode of the animated series American Dad on TBS in 2020, and he also played himself in Uncut Gems, which starred Adam Sandler.

If you didn’t see, The Weeknd performed with Ariana Grande at the recent iHeartRadio Music Awards.
