This is such a heartwarming story!

A woman who was searching through a local shelter’s adoption website ended up finding the dog that she lost two years ago.

Aisha Nieves, who lives in Allentown, Penn., first adopted her dog Kovu when he was just seven weeks old. Back in 2019, he went missing after a truck hit her fence and the dog escaped.

The dog was found weeks later by the Lehigh County Humane Society and was adopted to a family in October 2019.

“He needed to be treated for fleas, was missing hair on his hind end and had inflammation,” LCHS director of development Deirdre Snyder told The Morning Call. “He was treated with antibiotics and bathed with a special medical shampoo. He was in our shelter for about four months and then adopted out to a family Oct. 25, 2019.”

Flash forward to June 2021, Kovu was returned to the shelter by the family who adopted him because they were facing eviction.

Aisha was searching the LCHS website in hopes of finding a new dog to adopt for her two sons. That’s when she discovered her dog was there!

“I thought, ‘Wait, that can’t be him,’” she said. “Then, I saw the little scar over one eye, the scar from when he got caught in a gate, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s my baby, that’s Kovu!’”

Aisha talked about the moment she reunited with Kovu. She said, “He was screaming, trying to get away from the guy holding him and run to me. Then, he just jumped on me, and we started kissing and hugging. He sat on my lap. I told him, ‘Yeah, buddy, you’re going home. I’m so sorry this happened. Never again am I losing you.’”
