Sha'Carri Richardson Is No Longer Going to Olympics After Positive Marijuana Test

Sha’Carri Richardson isn’t going to the Olympics anymore.

The 21-year-old U.S. Olympic track and field trials’ women’s 100 meters winner, who tested positive for marijuana in a drug test, will not be joining Team USA at the event, the WSJ reported Tuesday (July 7).

Her name was left off the roster, which was named by USA Track & Field, on Tuesday (July 7). She had been disqualified from the 100 meters, but USATF, the sport’s national governing body, had the option to still select her to run in a relay in Tokyo, Japan at the 2021 Summer Olympics.

They did not select her for the final team roster.

“While USATF fully agrees that the merit of the World Anti-Doping Agency rules related to THC should be reevaluated, it would be detrimental to the integrity of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Track & Field if USATF amended its policies following competition, only weeks before the Olympic Games,” USATF said in their statement.

“All USATF athletes are equally aware of and must adhere to the current anti-doping code, and our credibility as the National Governing Body would be lost if rules were only enforced under certain circumstances.”

The statement also praised her accountability and said they offer her “our continued support both on and off the track.”

Find out what her reaction was after the positive drug test was revealed.
