Lea Michele's Tribute to Naya Rivera, One Year After Her Death, Has Some Special Significance

Lea Michele is one of the many Glee stars who paid tribute to their late co-star Naya Rivera on the one-year anniversary of her death.

Naya tragically passed away last year in a drowning accident at California’s Lake Piru.

Lea took to her Instagram Stories on Thursday (July 8) and simply shared a photo of Naya performing. She added the “dove with olive branch” emoji to the post.

Glee fans understood the significance of the photo she chose though.

Lea shared a photo of Naya from season five’s ninth episode, in which she performed the classic Funny Girl song “Don’t Rain on My Parade.”

A major story line in season five was Rachel Berry’s journey to playing Fanny Brice in a Broadway revival of Funny Girl. You might remember how Rachel performed “Don’t Rain on My Parade” in the first season of Glee and it became one of Lea‘s most memorable performances on the show.

In that episode of Glee, Naya‘s character Santana Lopez surprised Rachel by auditioning to be her understudy in Funny Girl… and she got the role.

Fans are touched by Lea remembering Naya by looking back at the song they shared on the show.
