Jenna Fischer Is Opening Up About Why She Was Fired From 'Man With A Plan'

Jenna Fischer is opening up about the role that she was fired from – Andi Burns opposite Matt LeBlanc in Man With A Plan.

The role was ultimately played by Liza Snyder and the series went on for four seasons before it was cancelled last year.

In the most recent episode of her Office Ladies podcast with Angela Kinsey, Jenna revealed that she was let go from the show after test audiences were still thinking of her as The Office‘s Pam Beesly, and couldn’t see how Pam could marry Joey, Matt‘s Friends character.

Jenna shared that network executives initially wanted “more scenes” with her when she was cast as Matt‘s onscreen wife, but then changed their minds.

“They said — this is a literal quote, they said, ‘I don’t believe Pam would marry Joey. The chemistry doesn’t work between these two,’” she shared. “That was the feedback they got.”

Jenna adds, “So it wasn’t working for them that we got married and had a family.”

She actually didn’t find out that she was fired until the day before upfronts in New York

“The first thing I said was, ‘Is [Man with a Plan] not getting picked up?’” she remembered asking after receiving a call from her reps. “And they said, ‘It’s worse than that, hun.’ And I was like, ‘What’s worse than that?’ They said, ‘It’s getting picked up, but without you.’ And I was like, ‘Wow, I guess I’ll unpack my suitcase.’”

Jenna went on to star in Splitting Up Together, with Oliver Hudson. The series ended after just one season.
