One Of HBO's New Series Might Outspend 'Game of Thrones' Production

HBO is currently rounding out the cast of their brand new show, The Last Of Us, and in a new report, it’s being suggested that the new series could outspend Game of Thrones per episode.

According to the report (via Forbes), the president of IATSE 212 (an association of film artists and technicians in the region), Damian Petti, shared a cost number that will make your jaw drop.

Damian projected that The Last Of Us “exceeds the eight figure per episode mark.”

He added, “So there is a multiplier effect on our economy in terms of its impact. There are hundreds of related businesses benefitting from the plethora of work.”

If this is true, then just one episode of The Last of Us, at minimum, could cost at least $10 million an episode, and that adds up to $100 million for a ten episode season.

Forbes adds that because of the “exceeds” part of Damian‘s statement, the season could potentially cost $150 million, which definitely goes beyond the budget of even the final seasons of Game of Thrones.

GoT‘s sixth season had a budget of $10 million an episode, and by the final season, it increased to $15 million an episode for the longer, more battle-focused productions.

The Last of Us, based on the popular video game, “takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”

Pedro Pascal, Gabriel Luna, Bella Ramsey and Nico Parker are all set to star.
