Chinese Rapper & Actor Kris Wu Accused of Sex Abuse

Kris Wu, a popular Chinese-Canadian rapper who has also broken into the acting world, has been accused of sexually abusing young girls.
The claims have made headlines in China, where an interview with the accuser has been viewed over 1.66 billion times on social media service Weibo, according to THR. Eight of the top 10 searches on Weibo are related to the claims.
Wu shot to fame as a member of the K-Pop group Exo and later pursued a solo career in China, where he has led several blockbuster hits. He also had roles in Hollywood movies like xXx: Return of Xander Cage and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. In addition, he has business relationships with several high-profile brands, including Louis Vuitton.
Back in 2018, Wu’s debut album caused some controversies because of fraudulent sales, which catapulted it down the chart to a No. 100 debut.

So, what is he being accused of?
A former fan named Du Meizhu, who is currently 19, says that she was lured to Wu’s home when she was 17 and told that she would receive an audition. Instead, she says she was given alcohol and that Wu had sex with her after she blacked out.
Du claims that there are at least eight other women who had similar experienced with Wu, including two who are minors.
Wu has already spoken out to deny the claims and he reportedly plans on filing a defamation lawsuit against the accuser. He said on Weibo, “I didn’t respond earlier because I didn’t want to interfere with judicial proceedings… but I cannot bear it anymore.”
Wu admits that he did meet Du at a party, but denies everything else she said. He added, “If I’ve done any of the things [she claims], I will take myself to jail.”
It has been reported that Wu paid about 500,000 yuan, which is the equivalent of $77,166, to Du as hush money. She reportedly is now paying back the money and plans on taking legal action against him.
Many of the companies that work with Wu, including Louis Vuitton, are distancing themselves from him. The fashion brand said it “takes the allegations against Kris Wu very seriously and has suspended its relationship with Kris Wu until the outcome of the judicial investigation is known.”
