Matt Damon Reveals The Reason He Got Emotional During 'Stillwater' Premiere at Cannes

Last month, Matt Damon got teary eyed while premiering his latest film, Stillwater, during the Cannes Film Festival.

According to a video from inside the theater, the movie received a five-minute standing ovation from the audience and video footage shows Matt tearing up during the emotional moment.

Now, Matt is opening up more about why he got emotional.

Speaking with Variety, Matt admitted that the reaction snuck up on him.

He also said that his tearful reaction was due to “the feeling of being in a movie theater again and how much I missed that, and why we do that.”

“It was a great reminder that we need to go as a community of strangers and turn the lights off and have this experience all at the same time together,” Matt added. “There’s something beautiful and valuable about that.”

He went on, “I just kind of got overwhelmed in the moment because I just hadn’t done that in almost two years. It was great. I was happy. I was just very moved by it.”
