Lionsgate Boss Gives Update on 'Hunger Games' Prequel Movie About Young Coriolanus Snow

Joe Drake, the chairman of Lionsgate motion picture group, is opening up with a new update on the upcoming prequel movie for The Hunger Games.

It was announced over a year ago that a movie would be made about young Coriolanus Snow, based on the recent prequel book “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.”

Suzanne Collins, who wrote the original Hunger Games trilogy, released the book back in May 2020 and it was an immediate hit.

So, what is happening with the upcoming movie?

In the company’s quarterly earnings call on Thursday (August 5), Drake revealed that the movie will go into production in the first half of 2022 and that the film will be released in theaters in late 2023 or early 2024.

While talking about the pre-production process, he said it’s “moving along really, really well.”

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes focuses on “Coriolanus Snow at age 18, years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem. Young Coriolanus is handsome and charming, and though the Snow family has fallen on hard times, he sees a chance for a change in his fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor for the Tenth Hunger Games… only to have his elation dashed when he is assigned to mentor the girl tribute from impoverished District 12.”

No casting has been announced yet.

Here are the nine other stars who auditioned for Jennifer Lawrence‘s role of Katniss in The Hunger Games.
