The National MS Society says that multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. There’s no known cause for MS, but scientists “believe that a combination of environmental and genetic factors contribute to the risk of developing MS.”
The society says, “The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease.”
Some other celebs who have been open about their MS diagnoses include Selma Blair, Jamie Lynn Sigler, and Jack Osbourne.
When Jamie revealed her diagnosis in 2016, she had been battling the disease for over fifteen years.
Back in 2008, Christina was diagnosed with breast cancer and she had a double mastectomy to remove both of her breasts. She wrote her cancer battle into her Netflix series Dead to Me.
“It’s such a personal choice,” she previously told USA Today. “I don’t know what anyone’s going to take away from that moment or scene, except for ‘Wow, I felt that way, too, and I’m going to be OK.’ Because you will. It’s OK to admit that you feel that way.”
We’re sending all our love to Christina right now.
