To prepare for his role in Taxi Driver, Robert De Niro worked 12 hour shifts as a cab driver in New York City. During a panel at the Tribeca Film Festival, Martin Scorsese recalled that there was one passenger who recognized the actor.

“You told me that a guy got in the car, and he noticed it was your name on the driver’s license and said, ‘My God, you just won an Oscar! Is it that hard to get a job as an actor?’” the director said.

“I said ‘Yeah,’” Robert replied.
