Find Out How Much Paramore Will Make After Being Added to Olivia Rodrigo's 'Good 4 U'!

Paramore‘s Hayley Williams and Josh Farro were recently added to the credits of Olivia Rodrigo‘s hit “Good 4 U” due to many people pointing out its similarity to the band’s 2007 song “Misery Business,” causing many songwriters and artists to weigh in regarding copyright, fairness and being inspired by music.

The song, which is currently in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, is a huge hit, and debuted at No. 1 back in May. Now, many are wondering about how much that could make Paramore.

The credit is considered an interpolation, otherwise known as an element of a previously recorded song re-recorded and incorporated, via Variety. It’s also worth noting that, according to their report, the two parties were in touch before the song was even released.

While there isn’t an exact calculation, its total estimated publishing and songwriting royalties put the track “in seven-figure territory” in just a few months already.

“It’s hard to give an exact value, because there really are a lot of variables, but in public performance [alone], it’s a seven-figure number ranging from $1.2 million to probably north of $2 million on the amount of spins, how long it’s been on the radio, how many formats it got play from,” an exec told the publication.

The track’s already garnered 527.4 million streams, 134,900 song sales, 324,300 radio plays and 246,700 album sales.

Christopher Hull, partner and co-practice leader at Citrin Cooperman, estimates the publisher and writer royalties for “Good 4 U” are at more than $1.4 million – and that’s not yet including territories outside of the United States.

That estimated $1.4 million, which also does not account for additional income from syncs in advertising still to come, would be divided between Sony Music Publishing, which represents Olivia and co-writer Dan Nigro, and Warner Chappell Music, which represents Paramore.

After the publisher’s share, the remaining approximate $700,000 gets split between the four writers, although Variety points out that it’s unlikely each gets 25% evenly, as split agreements vary.

A prominent music attorney also said that in the case of “Good 4 U,” “a song like that can earn $10 million.”
