Gabrielle Union's Met Gala Dress Took 1400 Hours To Make!

Gabrielle Union makes a statement in a custom gown at the 2021 Met Gala on Monday (September 13) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The 40-year-old actress revealed that the dress, from Iris Van Herpen, has been in the works since April.

“We’ve been working on this since April, and it’s all about change,” she shared with ET. “Every step it changes…all the colors change, just like America.”

Gabrielle also joked about why husband Dwyane Wade wasn’t at the event with her.

“He decided to watch the Bears game instead. Too bad they lost!”

The annual Costume Institute Gala is the fashion world’s equivalent of the Oscars and the event is usually held on the first Monday of May, but it was postponed until September 2021 due to the pandemic. The theme this year is “In America” and there will be a two-part exhibit with the second part debuting at next year’s Met Gala.
