Michael Gandolfini's Audition For 'Many Saints of Newark' Lasted Over Three Months

Michael Gandolfini is opening up about portraying a young Tony Soprano for The Many Saints of Newark.

The 22-year-old actor, and son of the late James Gandolfini, opened up in an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday (September 30) about the road to his role.

Michael revealed that it actually took over three months of auditions for him to be cast in the movie.

“It was three months of first being like ‘I don’t know….’,” Michael shared. “I don’t know Tony. I’d never seen the show. I wanted to be my own actor. I don’t know if I can really do it.”

He added that “as the auditions went on, I just sort of thought, ‘You know, you got to do a good audition to get in front of good people.’”

“I started to fall in love with Tony more and more.”
