Host Tamara Dhia began by asking if it was true that Anthony didn’t have his driver’s license before the movie

“Yes. The answer is yes,” he replied. “My director is like, you know… the car, we need you to drive it.”

He added that while there are places to put the camera to make it look like he’s actually driving, director Steven Caple Jr. told Anthony he’d like him to be able to drive.

“I had like, a two week-window to try and book a road test and pass,” he said.

The In the Heights star went on to say that growing up in New York, getting his license wasn’t a necessity.

“I mean, I never need it,” he said. “Then later on Uber came, I was like, whoa, what is this? You can like get a phone and call a stranger, come and roll up to your crib.”

Anthony also teased what fans can expect from the new Transformers film.

Transformers is going to be crazy,” he said, adding, “Our director, Steven Caple Jr., has such a vision. It’s so vivid. Like, this dude is like… I’m talking about he’s so locked in. It’s amazing being on set and working with him. And for anybody who’s a fan of Transformers, the Beast Wars are part of that world. And it’s amazing that we’re incorporating the Beast Wars into this world of Transformers.”

He later discussed what it was like working with Dominique Fishback on the film. The pair have actually been close friends for a number of years and worked on a play together in college!

“Today’s my first day with Dominique on set and we’ve been friends for like six years, and she’s from Brooklyn, and I’m from Brooklyn. And it’s like a thing where you from New York and you’re doing movies or TV or whatever, film theater, you find each other you know,” he said.
