Andrew Lloyd Webber Says the 'Cats' Movie Was 'Off-The Scale All Wrong'

Andrew Lloyd Webber really, really hated the Cats movie.

In a new interview, the 73-year-old theater icon, who composed the Cats Broadway musical, admitted that he couldn’t stand the 2019 film adaption.

Cats was off-the-scale all wrong,” Andrew shared with Variety. “There wasn’t really any understanding of why the music ticked at all. I saw it and I just thought, ‘Oh, God, no.’”

Andrew added that he thought the movie was so bad that it caused him to do something he’s never done in his entire life.

“It was the first time in my 70-odd years on this planet that I went out and bought a dog,” Andrew added. “So the one good thing to come out of it is my little Havanese puppy.”

Andrew went on to say that he and the dog kept each other company throughout the pandemic, and that he plans on bringing the dog with him to Broadway when the time is right.

“I wrote off and said I needed him with me at all times because I’m emotionally damaged and I must have this therapy dog,” Andrew said. “The airline wrote back and said, ‘Can you prove that you really need him?’ And I said ‘Yes, just see what Hollywood did to my musical Cats.’ Then the approval came back with a note saying, ‘No doctor’s report required.’”

Andrew’s latest comments come after he said last year that he thought the movie was “ridiculous.”
