Kieran Culkin Remembers How Brother Macaulay Got Harassed By Fans As A Child Star

Child stardom is something Kieran Culkin is familiar with, but he knows that older brother Macaulay had it worse.

During his cover story with The Hollywood Reporter, the 39-year-old Succession star recalled a few times when he say Macaulay get harassed by fans.

“One time, a woman pulled off his hat and looked at him and said, ‘Yeah, it’s him! You’re not that cute.’ And then handed the hat back and walked away,” Kieran recalled of one particular moment.

He also remembered how he was mistaken for Macaulay while filming Father of the Bride.

“When I was doing one of the Father of the Bride movies, this woman ran up to me and said, ‘Are you Macluckly Macluckly?’ And I went, ‘No.’ She goes, ‘Can I get a picture?’ I said, ‘I’m not him.’”

“And in my mind, I’m thinking, ‘Nobody’s that.’”

Kieran revealed that the way they got involved in the industry was through their neighbors who worked for Light Opera of Manhattan and had asked his family for help with his production.

“I just liked it,” Kieran shared about acting. “It was fun for me.”

But it proved not to be fun anymore when fame caught up following Igby Goes Down: “I was definitely not ready. I would not have been able to handle it, and I think I knew that. I would not have been able to handle whatever kind of success or attention came from that. So I quite literally ran away from it.”

Kieran and Macaulay‘s younger brother Rory is also an actor.
