Alicia Vikander Says Playing Two Characters in 'The Green Knight' Was a 'Gift'

Alicia Vikander is opening up about her new film The Green Knight!

The movie is based on the Arthurian poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, following King Arthur’s nephew Gawain (Dev Patel) as he embarks on a quest to prove his place at his Uncle’s roundtable by confronting the Green Knight.

The actress plays Esel, Gawain’s lover, as well as the mysterious woman he comes across during his journey.

Director David Lowery shared that the Oscar-winning actress “was one of the first people to read the script.”

“She really loved it,” he said. “We’ve been a fan of each other’s work. She really brought a lot to it and was there from the very early days, the first draft.”

Alicia is also seen on set, telling the camera, “David has really given me a wonderful little gift in this film. First of all, I get to play two different characters!”

David added, “Working with her was a true pleasure. Just getting to watch her define these characters in different ways and yet find ways they could reflect one another was really stunning.”

Dev Patel also said of his co-star, “She has this kind of precision as a performer which I was just in awe of.”

“Two different accents and two totally different personalities,” he continued. “To watch her embody the both of those, the yin and the yang, was really amazing. It was a joy to be around.”

The Green Knight is set to be released on 4K, Blu-ray™, DVD, and Digital October 12 from Lionsgate.
