Netflix Suspends Three Employees for Crashing Leadership Event Amid Dave Chappelle Controversy

Netflix has reportedly suspended three employees, including an out trans person who criticized Dave Chappelle‘s new comedy special, for crashing a meeting of its top executives.

Sources have told Variety that Terra Field, a senior software engineer at the streaming company, was among those suspended.

According to the report, Terra and two others attended the “QBR,” Netflix’s two-day quarterly business review with 500 of the top employees at the company.

Terra and the other employees were not invited to the event, insiders say. They also clarified that the company did not suspend Terra over recent tweets about anti-trans jokes in Dave Chappelle‘s special, The Closer, but for attending uninvited.

“It is absolutely untrue to say that we have suspended any employees for tweeting about this show. Our employees are encouraged to disagree openly and we support their right to do so,” a spokesperson told the outlet.

Dave Chappelle faced backlash after making anti-trans and LGBTQIA+ comments in his new special, which was released last week.

In part, he said, “Gender is a fact. Every human being in this room, every human being on earth, had to pass through the legs of a woman to be on earth. That is a fact.” He also said that “trans women” genitalia are “not quite what it is.”

“Yesterday we launched another Chappelle special where he attacks the trans community, and the very validity of transness – all while trying to pit us against other marginalized groups. You’re going to hear a lot of talk about ‘offense.’ We are not offended,” Terra tweeted on Wednesday (October 6), going on to list the names of trans people, specifically trans women of color, who were killed in hate crimes.

Netflix’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos responded to the controversy surrounding Dave Chappelle earlier today.
